Monotype is a technique of art printing. I use a Plexiglas plate which is painted with oil ink, oil bars or a special watercolor ink. The plate is covered with printing paper and sent through an etching press. Since each print is unique and hand executed, monotypes cannot be considered a technique for multiples. The plate may be reprinted after printing the initial image but those following will not be identical. That is what makes the process so interesting to work with. There are often exciting surprises!!
